In 2013, Vail-Summit Orthopaedic Foundation was established by the physicians of Vail-Summit Orthopaedics, obtaining status as a 501(c)(3) public charity in 2014. The Foundation is supported financially by each of the Vail-Summit Orthopaedics physicians, in addition to industry partners and grateful patients.

Our research activities focus to advance the science of orthopaedic medicine with basic science and clinical outcomes research of orthopaedic and sports medicine. The results of our investigations culminate in regional, national and international presentations and publication of our original research and reviews. Through these efforts, VSOF aims to expand the base of orthopaedic knowledge, share our findings with colleagues, and provide information that is imperative in determining best outcomes for patients, thus impacting individual decision-making by physicians and helping to guide health care policy.

VSOF promotes orthopaedic education. We sponsor educational opportunities for peers through conferences, lectures, and anatomy labs, providing the opportunity for health care professionals to obtain credit for continuing medical education. Additionally, VSOF is directly involved in teaching and training student interns, medical students, residents, fellows and practicing physicians.

The Foundation's community outreach supports Eagle and Summit Counties, Colorado, by administering sports medicine and athletic training programs for students and residents, as well as preventative and therapeutic programs for county athletes.
