Vail Health Hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission, a nonprofit organization that aims to continuously improve health care for the public.
 
Following is a list of additional awards and accreditations Vail Health Hospital and services of Vail Health Hospital have recently received.
  • Vail Health Hospital's Emergency Department has been recognized a Human Experience (HX) Guardian of Excellence Award® winner by Press Ganey in 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023. This award is part of Press Ganey’s annual ranking of the top hospitals and health systems in the country, according to performance in patient experience.
  • Vail Health Hospital has earned the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)’s Pathway to Excellence® designation, joining a premier group of organizations. Vail Health Hospital is one of only eight Colorado health care systems and one of 200 worldwide to earn the prestigious designation.
  • Vail Health was ranked in the top 16% of 2,778 hospitals in obstetrics, earning the health care system the Women’s Choice 2019 Obstetrics Award. This is the third year in a row Vail Health has received this accolade. 
  • The Joint Commission, the United States’ leading accreditor of health care organizations, recognized Vail Health in its Pioneers in Quality publication, which featured the successful work of only three other hospitals in 2018.
  • Vail Health was recognized by the National Organization of State Office of Rural Health (NOSORH) and The Chartis Center for Rural Health/iVantage Health Analytics for overall excellence in outcomes and patient satisfaction, reflecting top quartile performance among all rural hospitals in the nation.

  • Vail Health was ranked in the top 3% of 4,797 hospitals in orthopaedics, earning the health care system the Women’s Choice 2019 Orthopaedics Award. 
  • 2015 Women's Choice Award for America's Best Hospitals for Orthopedics
  • American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer Accreditation
    Shaw Cancer Center has received a gold accreditation from the Commission on Cancer, the highest level achievable by the survey. Established by the American College of Surgeons, the CoC is a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients. Since the CoC’s Outstanding Achievement Award originated in 2004, only an average of 12% of the programs surveyed receives a gold accreditation each year. 
  • Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) QOPI Cert
    Shaw has been recognized with a certification for its commitment to excellence and ongoing quality improvement. Comprised of academic oncologists and quality experts, QOPI incorporates measures and standards based on clinical guidelines and published standards for quality oncology care. More
     
  • Chartrounds Project
    Dr. Patricia Hardenbergh, the director of radiation oncology at Shaw Cancer Center, was awarded a $1.35 million grant by the American Society of Clinical Oncology Cancer Foundation® and Susan G. Komen for the Cure® to improve cancer treatment for those living in rural areas. To learn more, read "Small Town, Big City Care." Dr. Hardenbergh also received the Clinical Excellence Award from Vail Valley Medical Center in 2012.
  • The American College of Radiology
    Sonnenalp Breast Center is an American College of Radiology (ACR) Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. ACR is the country's FDA-approved accrediting body for mammography, and Center of Excellence seal is the highest accreditation achievable by breast imaging centers. We are fully accredited in:
