Steadman Philippon Research Institute (SPRI) is recognized worldwide for its orthopaedic research into the causes, prevention and treatment of orthopaedic disorders. Committed to solving the orthopaedic problems that limit an individual's ability to maintain an active lifestyle, SPRI's primary areas of research and education include basic scientific studies, clinical research, biomedical engineering, imaging research and education and fellowship. The SPRI team collects data and publishes clinical research results on knees, hips, shoulders and spine as well as imaging studies, making the Institute one of the most published organizations in sports medicine research and education.

The Steadman Philippon Research Institute's Department of BioMedical Engineering and Surgical Skills Laboratory bring the Institute to the peak of advancing orthopaedic medical education.

The Department of BioMedical Engineering is a multidisciplinary laboratory integrating clinical care, research and education with the resources of world-renowned medical doctors to improve the treatment of musculoskeletal diseases. This focused approach is designed to maintain and enhance athletic performance, health, and quality of life for professional, semi-professional, collegiate, high school and recreationally active people through an emphasis on bench-to-bedside research. The programs provided by the Department of BioMedical Engineering are unique and diverse, and they encompass a complete range of services for the physically active or those wishing to return to an active lifestyle after injury.
The Surgical Skills Laboratory features state-of-the-art arthroscopic wet lab stations; fully equipped arthroscopic video towers; audio/video capabilities, allowing participants to view demonstrations on monitors within the lab; conference rooms and a dissection area; and teleconference capabilities between conference rooms and laboratories. The Institute's staff organizes and coordinates all aspects of medical education courses and arranges everything from catering meals, to ordering and managing cadaveric specimen needs and equipping visitors with the necessary tools and equipment.
