Vail Health Offers Job Shadow Program To Local High School Students
Vail Health has been working with Eagle County Schools CareerX program for the past two years. CareerX offers high school students job shadow opportunities, internships and paid student positions at many different businesses throughout Eagle County. The program exposes students to a field of study they may be interested in pursuing post high school.
Vail Health has educated 50 local students through CareerX in hopes of inspiring them to pursue a career in health care. The program exposes high school students to six different hospital departments including Pre-op/PACU, Emergency, Imaging, Patient Care Unit, Lab, and the Pharmacy.
Each health care professional shares what a typical day might look like in their department. They also share their educational path to help students understand the courses needed to achieve specific positions.
Vail Health's Urgent Care professionals offer a hands on approach allowing the students to work with simulation mannequins and real medical equipment. During these programs students learn how to draw blood, start IVs and intubate a patient. Students ask questions to help them understand that health care is a viable and exciting profession.
Vail Health will continue this program in 2019. There are many educational opportunities at Colorado Mountain College in Edwards where students can pursue health care careers that allow them to stay close to home and receive an affordable education.
