Biography

Jona Nykreim, MCHS, PA-C, has lived and worked in the Vail Valley since 1993. She came to the area after completing her undergraduate degree at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, earning bachelor’s degrees in nutrition and psychology. After spending several years on the slopes of Beaver Creek teaching kids to ski, she was accepted into the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center Physician Assistant program in Denver, Colorado, graduating in 2003. She then went to work in family medicine and urgent care in New Castle and Parachute on Colorado’s Western Slope, and settled back in the Vail Valley. Jona went back to school during these years to complete her master’s degree at the University of Washington in Seattle.

As a PA-C since 2003, Jona has cared for people of all ages in a variety of settings, taking care of common illnesses and injuries as well as managing complex health conditions. Special areas of interest include functional and mind-body medicine, mental health, addiction and substance use, and healthcare for vulnerable and underserved or underrepresented populations. Jona is a proud mom who loves to camp, hike, raft, and play in the snow with her clever and inquisitive daughter, Callaway.
