Patient Care Unit Pediatric Services We appreciate the presence of parents in the Patient Care Unit (PCU) and encourage your participation in your child’s care. Parents play an important role in their child’s recovery. We know your child’s admission is stressful for the entire family and our team is sensitive to the many concerns you may have regarding your child’s care. We encourage you to ask questions to better understand your child’s illness and plan of care. During Your Child’s Hospital Stay - We encourage you to stay with your child.
- Please check in at the nurse’s station when entering or leaving the unit.
- Please let a nurse know if you are leaving your child unattended in his/her room.
- Siblings under the age of 18 may not be left alone in the room with a patient.
- Visitors are limited to four at one time.
- You may be asked to step out of the room for procedures or emergencies.
- We encourage you to ask questions about your child’s care.
Your Child's Care Team - Our team is led by full-time Pediatric Hospitalist, Dr. Jeffrey Brown.
- Your child’s care team will be comprised of a physician and a nurse responsible for coordinating your child’s care.
- Pharmacists, respiratory therapists, care techs and other specialists will aid in your child’s care.
- A pediatric urologist, pediatric cardiologist and pediatric allergy/asthma specialist are available for consultation.
- The nursing staff work 12 hour shifts with one change of shift between 7 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. and an evening change occurring between 7 p.m. and 7:45 p.m.
- All hospital staff are required to wear VVMC identification badges. Do not leave your child in the care of persons not showing proper ID.
Parent/Guardian Information - Parents may visit anytime, 24 hours/day.
- We encourage one parent or caregiver to remain with the patient throughout the hospital stay.
- Visitors under 18 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.
- Regular visitor hours are from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Please only allow healthy visitors in your child’s room.
- Our rooms are semi-private; if your child has a roommate, please respect his/her privacy.
- A sleeper/recliner (or bed when possible) will be provided for one parent. The restroom and shower are available for your use.
- Cell phones may be used, but please be respectful of the patients and care team when using cell phones.
- To reach a patient through our switchboard, dial 970-476-3451.
- Please ensure side rails or crib rails are up if you leave the room.
Nutrition & Food Services Your child’s meals will be planned by our dietician. Remedies Café is located on the lower level of the hospital, and vending machines are located in the hallway just outside of the cafeteria. Fresh coffee is available in the PCU kitchen along with a microwave and refrigerator for your use. Please label your food and remove it from the refrigerator when you go home. The pharmacy and gift shop are in the lobby; they offer some snacks, toiletries etc. Please be aware that latex balloons are not permitted in the hospital. Café Weekday Hours: Breakfast 7:30 a.m. - 9 a.m.
Lunch 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Dinner & Afternoon snacks 3 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Café Weekend Hours:
Breakfast 8 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
Lunch 11:30 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
