John FaltusPhysical Therapist
John completed his undergraduate studies and received his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at Northeastern University, where he also completed a performance specialist internship at Athletes' Performance-Los Angeles and a clinical rotation with the Indiana Pacers. He then pursued a Master of Science in athletic training at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, where he provided coverage for college and high school athletics in addition to working as a physical therapist in the acute, orthopaedic, cardiac, and intensive care units at Erlanger Hospital. He most recently completed the sports physical therapy fellowship program at Duke University, providing rehabilitative care and practice/game coverage for Duke Athletics in addition to collaborating with orthopaedic and rehabilitation staff on conference presentations and journal publications and teaching in Duke's graduate physical therapy program. John is a board-certified sports clinical specialist and certified strength and conditioning specialist with a special interest in post-operative care from sports-related injuries as well as integration of functional assessment, performance enhancement and return to play progressions into sports medicine rehabilitation.


Amy PotterPhysical Therapist
Amy grew up in Colorado and has been interested in health and wellness since she was young. She received her Bachelor of Arts in kinesiology from the University of Colorado in 2002 and a doctorate in physical therapy from Regis University in 2007. Amy has worked in various physical therapy settings in Colorado and California and is passionate about helping others. Her clinical interests include orthopaedic impairments; geriatric, spinal, post-surgical, and athletic injury rehabilitation; myofascial release; women’s health; and ACL injury prevention.


Julie RobisonPatient Representative
Julie was born in Michigan, where she completed a computer degree. She followed her sister Anne to Vail for one ski season and has stayed for 30!  Julie has worked at The Steadman Clinic, the Steadman Foundation, Vail Valley Medical Center, and Howard Head Sports Medicine.



Carly BakerOccupational Therapist
Carly received her occupational therapy degree from Colorado State University. She began working at Howard Head Sports Medicine in 2000. Carly specializes in the treatment of upper extremity conditions. She received her advanced credentials in hand therapy in 2010 and recently completed her certification in ergonomic assessment.

Doug EmersonPhysical Therapist, Clinic Director
Doug received his master’s in physical therapy from Husson College in Bangor, Maine. He went on to gain his doctorate in 2007. Doug is an orthopaedic certified specialist and a certified Mulligan practitioner. He enjoys treating his patients with a combination of manual therapy, exercise and functional movement patterns.
Shayna GrahamPhysical Therapist
Shayna joined the Howard Head Sports Medicine team from Canajoharie, NY, by way of Simmons College, where she earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy. Certified as a clinical instructor, Shayna specializes in vestibular rehabilitation and neurology. She is fluent in Spanish.
Jesse HortonPhysical Therapist
Jesse studied exercise science at the University of North Florida and worked as a personal trainer until 2008, when he returned to the University of North Florida to complete his Doctorate of Physical Therapy. After graduating, he worked for an outpatient sports medicine clinic in Jacksonville, FL.
Erica Ross – Patient Representative
Before coming to work at the Howard Head Sports Medicine clinic in Eagle, Erica worked for Vail Valley Medical Center for six years at the Eagle Care Clinic in Edwards. A native of Peru, she is fluent in Spanish.


Kelly Dantas – Physician Liaison & Marketing
Kelly received her BS in aviation management and French from the University of North Dakota and the Sorbonne in Paris. She moved to Vail soon after graduation and started working as the assistant manager of one of Vail’s on-mountain restaurants for Vail Resorts. This position evolved over the next 15 years to the group sales and services manager for Beaver Creek Resort. Over the past few years, Kelly managed the logistics for the Colorado Suzuki Music Institute Chamber Music program in Beaver Creek and worked in sales and event planning before joining the Howard Head team. Kelly has her pilot’s license, and in her free time enjoys traveling, mountain biking, skiing and participating in any activity with her children.
Stephanie Drew – Physical Therapist
Stephanie earned her master’s in physical therapy from Loma Linda University in California and went on to complete her doctorate. Simultaneously, she completed a year-long manual therapy residency. Stephanie has a strong background in Pilates and Maitland Therapy, successfully treating a broad spectrum of diagnoses. Her newest passion is women’s health.

Gretchen EbbesonBusiness Development Analyst
Gretchen was raised and attended school in New Hampshire. She moved to the Gulf Coast of Florida and eventually worked her way to the Colorado mountains, where she has been living for over a decade.

Philip Galloway – Physical Therapist
Philip received his undergraduate degree in exercise science from Florida State University in 2006. He completed his Doctorate of Physical Therapy at the University of North Florida in 2010 and upon completing an optional sports residency in South Carolina, he received sports certified specialist credentialing. He moved to the Vail Valley in 2012. Philip's specialties include shoulder and knee pathologies, as well as running and returning athletes to individualized sports. He is also certified in therapeutic dry needling and functional movement screening. In his free time, he enjoys mountain biking and running.


Greer Gardner – Patient Representative
Greer worked in the Department of Oncology, Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplant at The Children's Hospital in Denver for 11 years, where she specialized in patient relations and insurance verification. She moved to Vail full-time in 2000 after having a part-time home here since 1981. She has worked on Vail Mountain in the community guest service program, and for the last 11 years, she ran the Feel Better Room at Beaver Creek Children's Ski School, a facility for sick, sad and injured 3-14 year old children. Greer volunteers for Bravo!, Shaw Regional Cancer Center, Vail Valley Foundation, and the Town of Vail Host Program.

Christine Hasselbach – Physical Therapist
Christine Hasselbach attended the University of Colorado for her undergraduate degree as well as her master’s and clinical doctorate in physical therapy. She has worked as a physical therapist since 2004 and moved to the Vail Valley in 2007 to work with orthopaedic patients at Howard Head Sports Medicine and oncology patients at Shaw Regional Cancer Center. She is certified in lymphedema management and is a specialist in oncology therapy.


Brittney Huntimer – Physical Therapist
Brittney came to Howard Head through our sports physical therapy residency program. Originally from South Dakota, Brittney became interested in physical therapy while completing her undergraduate degree as a certified athletic trainer at Iowa State University, where she worked with Division I football and softball athletes. Brittney completed her doctorate in physical therapy at Des Moines University Osteopathic Medical Center. She is a board-certified sports clinical specialist and has a strong background in Pilates. Brittney is currently training to become a Fellow in the Orhopaedic Academy of Manual Physical Therapy. She specializes in the treatment of the spine, upper and lower extremity injuries, as well as concussion and return-to-sport treatment and management.  



Andrea Sauer – Occupational Therapist
Andrea joins our outpatient occupational therapy team from Newburgh, Indiana. She completed her bachelor’s degree in psychology in 1999 and her occupational therapy degree in 2004 from Indiana University. Andrea achieved her certification in hand therapy in 2010, joining a prestigious group of therapists with advanced credentials in the treatment of hand and upper extremity injuries. Most recently, she attained a certification in manual lymph drainage and works with post-operative swelling in both orthopaedic and cancer patients.


Todd Ward – Physical Therapist
Todd manages the Howard Head Sports Medicine locations in Edwards, Avon and Beaver Creek. He has been practicing as an outpatient orthopedic physical therapist with an emphasis in sports medicine for 16+ years. Todd graduated from the University of North Florida and spent several years with HealthSouth prior to working for Virginia Mason Sports Medicine in Seattle, where he also served as the PT for the Seattle Storm and David Elaimy Golf. Todd owned/operated his own private practice specializing in golf and endurance athletes. He is a manual therapist and has been a certified dry needling practitioner for over two years and ASTYM for 9 years. In addition to golfers, Todd enjoys working with runners, cyclists and triathletes.




Will Kruger – Physical Therapy Assistant
Will has been with Howard Head Sports Medicine since 2009, and is the office coordinator and a PTA in Summit County.



Mary Leone – Occupational Therapist
A Minnesota native, Mary received her occupational therapy degree from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. She became a certified hand therapist in 2002 and has spent much of her career working in a rural orthopaedic practice. Mary has developed many diverse practice skills in areas of hand therapy, spinal cord and head injury rehabilitation, and pediatric rehabilitation.



Maura McQuillen – Physical Therapist
Maura grew up on the seacoast of New Hampshire and graduated from Notre Dame College with a Master of Physical Therapy degree. Maura has spent her career in physical therapy, concentrating on orthopaedics and sports medicine injuries. Although her focus in spine injuries is one of her passions, she enjoys treating a wide variety of patients including post-operative patients, athletic injuries, and peripheral vestibular disorders.


Kathi Thomson – Occupational Therapist
Kathi received a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy and a master’s degree in applied physiology from Columbia University in New York. A certified hand therapist, Kathi has specialized in hand and upper extremity rehab at Howard Head Sports Medicine since 2000. Her experience as a personal trainer and health and fitness instructor complement a well-rounded approach to both post-operative and non-operative patients.



Lori Walter – Physical Therapist, Clinic Director
Lori received her master’s degree in physical therapy from Northwestern University. After working in a large medical center in the Chicago area, she joined a prestigious private practice in Boulder, Colorado in 2000, where she teamed with doctors and therapists to deliver exceptional care. After seven years in private practice, Lori moved to Germany to work with service members stationed abroad as a manager and primary therapist of Katterbach Physical Therapy Health Clinic. When she returned to Colorado, Lori launched a Boulder-based private practice and served active, busy clients in the convenience of their homes. Now living in Summit County, Lori has enhanced the Howard Head Sports Medicine team with expertise in manual therapy, functional therapeutic exercise, joint mobilization, and dry needling. 




Mary Dixon – Physical Therapist
Mary graduated from the University of Colorado in 2009 and has since worked with a variety of patient groups, specializing in spine and pelvic pain. With a functional manual therapy post-graduate emphasis, she is equipped to help those with sacroiliac and pelvic pain, low back pain, rib pain, neck pain and headaches. Her practice combines education, manual therapy, and functional exercise to help patients achieve their goals. She treats pregnancy-related pain; fibromyalgia and chronic pain; urinary incontinence; pain related syndromes of the spine and pelvis, including coccyx, osteoporosis, and the ROM; and lymph drainage treatment of the upper extremity related to mastectomy.

Mary Dixon

Eric Dube – Physical Therapist
A native of Massachusetts, Eric comes to Howard Head Sports Medicine with energy and expertise.  His specialties include shoulder and knee rehabilitation, both post and non-operative. Eric believes patient education is a big component in the rehab process, as it makes patients more successful in the present, and more effective at preventing future injuries.


Jill Sorensen – Physical Therapist
Jill graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder with a major in kinesiology and a minor in biology. She went on to receive her doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Montana. Jill found her way back to Colorado to join the Howard Head team at the Silverthorne clinic, where patients appreciate not only her clinical skills, but high energy and positive attitude as well.

Lauren Swanson – Patient Representative
Lauren received her Bachelor of Science in public relations from Champlain College in Burlington, VT. Her enthusiasm for helping people began through her work with The WaterWheel Foundation, as she spent most of her college years planning and implementing fundraisers on behalf of the Vermont non-profit. Currently, Lauren proudly represents Howard Head at our Silverthorne location.



Anna Giguere – Physical Therapist
Anna earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado in kinesiology and completed her graduate work at Regis University, earning her doctorate in physical therapy. Anna recently became a certified trigger point dry needling specialist, which complements her skills in orthopaedic manual therapy.



Michael Granzin – Physical Therapist
Originally from Rochester, NY, Mike earned his master’s degree in physical therapy from Ithaca College, where he was a member of the Alpine Race Team. He is a McKenzie certified therapist - an advanced certification in the treatment of back and neck problems.




Emma Kellner – Physical Therapist
A Montana native, Emma Kellner completed her undergraduate work at Pacific University in Oregon. She returned to the mountains to pursue a doctorate in physical therapy at Regis University in Denver.


Matt Mymern – Physical Therapist
A Colorado native, Matt grew up in Pagosa Springs, CO, spending winters learning to ski at Wolf Creek. After completing his undergraduate degree at Colorado State University and earning his doctorate in physical therapy from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania, Matt was a pioneer of the Howard Head Sport Medicine sports residency program before taking a full-time position as Dr. Sterett’s team leader. Matt spends roughly three months/year on the road as the team physical therapist for the US Women’s World Cup Team. He specializes in ski and snowboard injury rehabilitation, as well as injury prevention techniques. Matt has lectured nationally and locally on topics related to knee injuries.




Ana Robinson – Physical Therapist
Originally from Duluth, MN, Ana earned her Master of Physical Therapy at the College of St. Scholastica and her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at Regis University. She completed her orthopaedic residency in the fall of 2010. Ana specializes in the evaluation and treatment of the foot and ankle and serves as the team leader for Dr. Clanton of The Steadman Clinic.



Jaime Adams – Physical Therapy
Jaime joined the Howard Head Sports Medicine team after receiving her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. She was born and raised in Wyoming and completed her undergraduate degree in biology and business administration at Black Hills State University in South Dakota, where she competed in cross country and track and her love for marathons was developed.  Jaime competed in the Outdoor National Championships in the marathon as well as running the Boston Marathon. She brings her knowledge and skills of sports physical therapy and orthopaedics to assist patients and athletes of all types in their recovery.

Andy Almonte – Physical Therapist
Originally from Wichita, Kansas, Andy received his undergraduate degree from Colorado College in 1998 and his master’s in physical therapy from the University of Colorado Health Sciences in 2003. As part of the inpatient team, Andy enjoys treating a variety of injuries and helping post-op patients get back on their feet.



Kristen Ashbaugh – Physical Therapist
Kristen received her undergraduate degree in pre-physical therapy from Florida State University with a minor in Spanish and played on the FSU water polo team. She had the opportunity to study abroad in Spain and Costa Rica before admission to the University of Miami, where she was awarded her doctorate in Physical Therapy with honors. In her final year, Kristen was a presenter at the APTA Combined Sections Meeting for Research on lower extremity lymphedema in New Orleans. After graduate school, she volunteered at the Bernard Mevs Hospital in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, working with patients with spinal cord injuries.

Katheryn Baker – Occupational Therapist
Originally from south Louisiana, Kay received her Bachelor of Science in dietetics in 2008 and her master's degree in occupational therapy in 2011, both from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. She moved to Vail after working as a traveling therapist in Jacksonville, North Carolina, treating veterans and wounded warriors, and around Colorado in a variety of clinical settings.

Brian Bosl—Physical Therapist
Originally from Northern California, Brian completed his undergraduate degree in genetics at the University of California Davis. After a few years working in an organ transplant lab, he returned to graduate school and earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy from New York University in 2012. Brian is a certified strength and conditioning specialist. His clinical focus is post-surgical shoulder and knee rehabilitation.


Helen Bradley – Physical Therapist
Helen is a qualified sport and exercise scientist and physiotherapist. She graduated from Sheffield Hallam University then Cardiff University in Wales. She has over eight years experience working in the health industry, both in the UK and the USA. She worked for the National Health Service in England for three years, specializing in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. She also worked as a sports physiotherapist for Lincoln Rugby Club and was an integral part of the medical team for the Royal Navy Cricket Team. Her interest in sports physiotherapy led her to pursue a master's in sport and exercise medicine.


Nicholas Brown – Physical Therapist, V.P. Therapy Operations
Nico joined Howard Head Sports Medicine in December 2007 as a seasonal physical therapist whose primary responsibility was to provide care for injured skiers once they were cleared by the Emergency Department. He then continued working as a staff therapist in the Vail office until February of 2009, when he was promoted to clinic director of the Edwards office. In the fall 2012, Nico became one of two vice presidents leading the organization’s nine clinics.
Nico received his undergraduate degree from Emory University and his master's in physical therapy from Georgia State University.

Aja CederbergPatient Representative
Originally from North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Aja moved to the Vail Valley in 2008. When she’s not working as a patient representative and a physical therapist aide, she’s working hard earning her pre-medical degree in biology. Since the age of 10, Aja has actively volunteered in retirement centers and nursing homes. She enjoys traveling the world, interacting with many different cultures and people of all ages. Aja has a passion and love for children and helping those in need.


Sofija Cikara – Physical Therapist
Originally from the “Windy City” of Chicago, Sofija is a physical therapist, certified hand therapist, and director of elbow, wrist and hand therapy at Howard Head Sports Medicine. She received her Master of Physical Therapy from Marquette University in 1999 and went on to specialize in the treatment of the upper extremity. She completed her certification in hand therapy in 2005. Her passion is the treatment of upper extremity disorders using a manual therapy approach. Sofija has also been a teaching assistant in the physical therapy programs at both the University of Wisconsin and University of Colorado. Most recently, Sofija completed her certification in ergonomic assessment.

Dave Cimino – Physical Therapist
Originally from Long Island, NY, Dave interned at Howard Head Sports Medicine prior to receiving his doctorate at Northeastern University in Boston, MA. He returned to Vail to complete a sports clinical specialty residency at HHSM and continues to be a part of the team. He loves to treat athletes of all levels and strives to get his patients to achieve their goals.

Meghan Curley – Physical Therapist
Meghan joined the Howard Head team in 2007 after graduating from the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor’s degree in health studies and a master’s in physical therapy. Meghan became a sport certified specialist in 2009 and a performance enhancement specialist in 2010. She has focused on the treatment of lower extremity musculoskeletal disorders with an emphasis on the hip and knee. She specializes in orthopaedics and sports medicine and has treated a wide range of athletes from the recreational to professional level.

Ashley Dentler – Inpatient Therapy Manager, Physical Therapist
Ashley received her Doctor of Physical Therapy from Northeastern University in Boston, MA. While in school, she became a certified strength and conditioning specialist. She has had training in outpatient orthopaedics, neuromuscular rehabilitation, functional movement therapy, and manual lymphatic drainage. Ashley is responsible for treating patients on the patient care unit as well as all post-operative patients with both medical and orthopaedic diagnoses.



Shaleen Doctor – Lead Physical Therapist Aide
Shaleen was born in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada. She completed her Bachelor of Science in biology at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX. Throughout her undergraduate studies, Shaleen was an active member of her institution's women’s NCAA swimming team. In August 2012, she completed her master's degree in biomedical sciences at Colorado State University.


Andrea Drew – Physical Therapist
Andrea received a bachelor's degree from Montana State University while competing on the NCAA university ski team. She pursued her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at the University of New England.  Andrea has worked in out-patient physical therapy clinics in Durango and New Mexico prior to moving to Vail. She utilizes her training in massage therapy, dry needling, and therapeutic techniques to support and promote healing in individuals with injuries or chronic pain. Having grown up in Telluride, CO, Andrea enjoys a variety of outdoor activities, such as skiing, mountain biking, running, rafting, and hiking.

Amanda Gonzales – Patient Representative
A native of Colorado, Amanda was born and raised in Leadville, recently listed as the “Trailway to Heaven” by Runner’s World magazine. She recently welcomed her second baby boy and enjoys spending time with her new family or cheering on the Broncos.


Laurie Griffin – Physical Therapist
Laurie completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and her master’s in physical therapy at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. In 2010, she earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy and completed her orthopaedic residency. In 2011, she received her orthopaedic certified specialist certification. She is the team leader for Dr. LaPrade of The Steadman Clinic and specializes in complex knee injuries. She also works closely with hip arthroscopy patients of Dr. Phillippon of The Steadman Clinic.




Allie Hammond – Physical Therapist Aide
Allie received her Bachelor of Science in psychology: natural sciences from Loyola University Chicago while playing Division I soccer. Passionate about pursuing a career in physical therapy, she interned for her final semester at the in-patient pediatric center at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. After college, she spent five months volunteering with the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps based in California, working specifically in the Wild Land Fire Management Division. She recently returned home to the Vail Valley to be near her parents. Allie is enthusiastic about rejoining the Howard Head Sports Medicine team as a physical therapist aide after two summer internships at the Edwards Clinic. 


Erin Harding – Physical Therapist Aide
Erin earned her Bachelor of Arts in psychology and elementary education from Washington College, where she played soccer and solidified her love of sports. She then moved to Colorado to complete her Master of Arts in sport and performance psychology at the University of Denver in 2010. She splits her time between Howard Head and Ski Club Vail.


Jenna Hodge – Physical Therapist
Jenna completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Miami in Ohio. She earned her master’s in physical therapy from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center after completing her last clinical rotation with HHSM Vail’s inpatient rehab team.


Dirk Kokmeyer – Physical Therapist
Dirk is originally from Cape Cod, Massachusetts.  After serving in the United States Army for four years, Dirk attended the Hogelschool van Utrecht School of Physical Therapy in the Netherlands, and graduated Cum Laude.  In 2012, he obtained his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in Provo, Utah and is currently working on his PhD in orthopaedic and sports sciences. Dirk has worked at HHSM since 2000 and is a board certified sports specialist (SCS) and  certified orthopedic manual therapist (COMT). He specializes in orthopaedics and sports medicine and has treated a wide range of athletes from the recreational to the professional level. Dirk has lectured on various rehabilitation topics and has published on rehabilitation after rotator cuff repair surgery, rehabilitation considerations in throwing athletes, functional rehabilitation after ACL surgery in alpine skiers, sacroiliac joint testing and rehab following complicated surgical procedures. He serves as an assistant instructor at the University of Colorado School of Physical Therapy and has developed several of the post-operative protocols used by our referring orthopaedic surgeons.

Christy Madison – Patient Representative
Growing up playing sports and surrounded by constant sports injuries her brothers encountered, Christy’s passion for sports medicine began at a young age. She graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor’s degree in business and is enjoying pursuing her dream career in sports medicine.

Brooke Magstadt – Physical Therapist
Brooke was born and raised on a cattle ranch in North Dakota. She received her Bachelor of Arts in biology from Minnesota State University—Moorhead and moved to Colorado soon after finishing her undergraduate work. She spent five years in Colorado, whitewater guiding and skiing before returning to the Dakotas to attend physical therapy school. Brooke obtained her Doctor of Physical Therapy from The University of South Dakota and specializes in orthopaedic and sports physical therapy.


Emily Micho – Occupational Therapist
Emily received her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from Colorado State University in May 2012. After interning as a hand therapist with HHSM in Frisco and Silverthorne, Emily accepted an offer to work as an occupational therapist on the inpatient unit at VVMC.


Luke O’Brien – Physical Therapist, V.P. Therapy Operations
Luke is the vice president of clinical physical therapy in Vail and the rehabilitation coordinator for Dr. Richard Steadman. Since joining Howard Head Sports Medicine as a physical therapist in 2002, he has focused on the treatment of lower extremity musculoskeletal disorders with a specialization in the treatment of the knee. Luke has served as an assistant physical therapist for the US Ski Team, and as a consultant to many athletes, including those of Manchester United and Barcelona football clubs, the New York Mets, and the Portland Trail Blazers. Luke has also published numerous articles and text book chapters and has an adjunct faculty position at the University of Colorado. He holds a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the University of Queensland and a Master of Sports Physiotherapy from LaTrobe University.  Luke is also a sports certified specialist as recognized by the American Physical Therapy Association. 


Laura Olderog – Physical Therapist
Laura received a degree in music from the University of Northern Iowa. She left the Midwest in 2006 to pursue her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from Colorado State University. Laura spent four years working in the border town of Yuma, AZ  with a diverse group of patients (English and Spanish speaking). She has specialized in neurological rehab and treatment of lymphatic disorders and lymphedema treatment, earning her Clinical Laboratory Technician degree in 2008.



Thomas Olson – Physical Therapist
A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with bachelor's degrees in both zoology and history, Thomas moved to Vail to ski and work as a whitewater raft guide. As a member of the U.S. Men’s National Whitewater Raft Team, Thomas worked closely with HHSM staff to develop the team’s performance enhancement program. This experience sparked his interest in sports medicine and led him to pursue his Doctorate of Physical Therapy at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. He then went on to complete a post-graduate sports residency at Gundersen Lutheran Sports Medicine, earning his sports certified specialist designation in 2010. In addition to focusing on patient recovery from shoulder and knee injuries, Thomas’s commitment to continuing education has inspired him to present and publish at the local and national level.



Joe Pharez – Physical Therapist
Joe received his undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama and his doctorate in physical therapy from Alabama State University in 2008. Joe completed the HHSM residency program in 2009 and became a sports certified specialist in 2010. 



Will Place – Vail Clinic Manager
Born in Madrid, Spain, Will was raised in Austin, Texas. He served in the Navy from 1994-1998 and then attended Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. Will and his family moved to Eagle, CO in December 2007 when he began working for Vail Valley Medical Center as an admissions representative. He soon became the training coordinator for admissions, and in 2009, he was promoted to admissions coordinator. Will accepted a position with Howard Head as the Vail clinic office manager in 2012.



Kelly Platt – Occupational Therapist
Kelly graduated in 1998 with her bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from Saint Louis University and became a certified hand therapist in 2003. Specializing in post-operative static and dynamic splinting, Kelly joined HHSM in 2005 and has played an integral part in building the occupational therapy team. Her determination to help patients return to the sports they love is sparked by her own passion for athletics.


Becky Rosser – Physical Therapist
Originally from northeast Tennessee, Becky received her doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in 2010. She worked for over two years in New Mexico, treating veterans and providing diabetic education to both patients and providers. She moved to Colorado in November of 2012, fulfilling a childhood dream of living in the Rocky Mountains. When not working, she enjoys skiing, mountain biking, and rock climbing with her husband Brian. She recently became certified in manual lymphatic drainage to help manage post-operative swelling. 

Becky Rosser

Tricia Rieger – Physical Therapy Aide
Originally from Colorado Springs, Tricia spent most of her youth in Indianapolis, IN. She received her BS in biology from Purdue University in 2012 where she participated in rowing crew and equestrian competitions while cheering on her dear Boilermakers. Tricia has always had a passion for sports and pediatric therapy and will pursue her doctorate of physical therapy in 2015. She eventually would like to practice in Australia or New Zealand and hopes to continue volunteer work in Nicaragua. When she’s not working at Howard Head, Tricia enjoys hiking any trail she can find and traveling to World Heritage Sites.


Mark Ryan – Athletic Trainer
Mark received his bachelor’s degree in exercise & sports science from Colorado State University and his master’s degree in athletic training from Illinois State University before working in professional baseball for eight years. Working for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Texas Rangers, and Boston Red Sox organizations, Mark specialized in the treatment of various complex injuries. As a certified athletic trainer, strength & conditioning specialist, and ACSM health fitness instructor, Mark enjoys helping enhance patients’ athletic performance and specializes in return to sport training.

Erin Schmitt – Physical Therapist
Erin grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and received her bachelor’s degree in exercise science at Ohio State University in 2006. Her love of the mountains inspired her to attend Regis University in Denver to earn her doctorate in physical therapy.


Meghan Sheeran – Patient Representative
Meghan received her Bachelor of Arts in political science and psychology from the University of Vermont in 2007. In 2008, she moved to Australia, where she worked as an investigations coordinator for an insurance investigation firm. At the end of 2010, she moved back to the US and settled in Colorado, working for Vail Valley Medical Center as an admissions representative during the ski season.



Kristen Stangel  – Physical Therapist
Kristen interned at HHSM before receiving her doctorate at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN. She began working at Sister Kenny Sports and Physical Therapy Center in Minneapolis, MN, but it wasn’t long before the mountains called her back to the Vail area once again. Kristen played four years of college soccer and has a passion for orthopaedics and sports medicine.                    


Colleen Van Tiem – Physical Therapist
Colleen grew up in Detroit, MI. She received her undergraduate degree in pre-physical therapy from the University of Dayton, where she founded and played on the women’s lacrosse team. Colleen earned her doctorate in physical therapy from Northwestern University. Following graduate school, she moved to Santa Cruz, CA for an opportunity to work in a large outpatient, orthopaedic setting. She then returned to her home state to work in a sports medicine clinic focusing on the treatment of high school and collegiate athletes. Colleen’s areas of clinical interest include treatment of the injured runner and Pilates-based rehabilitation.

Nora Wallence – Patient Representative
Nora was born and raised in Harlingen, TX. After meeting her husband, she moved to San Antonio to raise their family. She is a certified phlebotomist and also holds a radiology technologist degree.  In 2005, during a trip to Pagosa Springs, CO she and her family discovered their love of the mountains and snow sports. After years of only vacationing in Colorado, they moved to Vail in the summer of 2011. 



Val Vasquez – Physical Therapist
Val received a Bachelor of Arts in physical education with a concentration in exercise science from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He played on the UNCW Rugby Club and worked as a strength and conditioning coach for the UNCW baseball, soccer, swim, and golf teams. He studied in Ecuador and Spain to complete his second bachelor's degree in Spanish literature. Val attended George Washington University in Washington, DC where he graduated with his Doctorate of Physical Therapy. During his post-graduate studies, he completed a three month internship in Sydney, Australia to improve his manual therapy skills.


Kat Williams – Patient Representative
Kat received her Bachelor of Science in recreation management and policy from the University of New Hampshire with a focus in sport and event management. She worked as the director of special events and finance for the MA Amateur Sports Foundation from 2005-2007 before accepting a position as a program coordinator for the Town of Brookline Recreation Department. Kat moved to Colorado in 2011 and worked as a manager with Marriott Vacations Worldwide before joining the Howard Head Team.
