Volunteers raise money for Vail's hospital

VAIL VALLEY — The Vail Valley Medical Center Volunteer Corps Summer Picnic was held recently at the Singletree Community Center in Edwards, Colorado. The weather cooperated, the food was fantastic and the guests had a great time. There was a barbecue cookoff by Dick Woodrow, Sandy Jacaruso, Mary Jo Froberg and Dottie Gould.

A couple of nice checks were presented to Chief Operating Officer Doris Kirchner and Chief Financial Officer Charlie Crevling of the Vail Valley Medical Center from Dick Woodrow, president of the Volunteer Corps. The first check was for $45,000 for the PET/CT Scanner and a second check of $10,000 purchased five infusion chairs for the Shaw Regional Cancer Center.

“The advanced technology of a PET/CT scanner provides physicians with the most sophisticated tool available today for making cancer diagnoses and determining delivery of treatment protocols with pinpoint accuracy,” said Dr. Jack Eck of the Vail Valley Medical Center. “It supports both the Shaw's medical and radiation oncology treatment programs including treatment planning, delivery, and follow-up care.”

As for the infusion chairs, they help make cancer treatments more comfortable.

The VVMC Volunteer Corps raises funds through the hospital gift shop, the Spring Fashion Show, bake sales and various other events. All the proceeds go towards these worthwhile purchases for the Vail Valley Medical Center.
