Vail Valley Medical Center volunteers honored It has been said, lovingly and jokingly, that Dick Woodrow’s job of organizing 157 volunteers, mostly women, is like herding cats. This group of Vail Valley Medical Center volunteers has a lot to say and share, making it an interesting challenge when they get together. All kidding aside, this group provides compassionate care and a meaningful volunteer experience, contributing 12,227 hours worth more than $240,000 in 2009. On Thursday, they celebrated their accomplishments together at Vista Restaurant in Arrowhead. The VVMC Volunteer Corps helps raise dollars for important projects, such as a PET/CT scanner and chemotherapy infusion chairs. Corps President Woodrow said that the most important work they do is the hours they put in. Volunteers help in the emergency departments, gift shops, lobby and patient care rooms with everything — including smiles, hand-holding and pets. Part of the luncheon took time to honor the number of hours each volunteer worked. Volunteer of the Year Sheri Ball said that she is in awe of the whole group and felt honored to be nominated by her cohorts. When pressed for a quote, she said, “If you do not do your best, how can you expect others to do their best? Lead by example.” Sally Clair and Blondie Vucich were celebrated for their work with the Pet Partners program that eases pain with the joy of contact with furry friends. Many volunteers are gearing up for the 2010 Spring Fashion Show
and Luncheon with the theme “Vail’s Next Top Model.” It will be held at Vail Mountain Resort & Spa on March 24. Designer fashion will be provided by Luca Bruno Due and Lacy’s with local models. VVMC Volunteer Corps coordinator Amanda Visosky said that two outstanding women will be honored at the fashion show for their philanthropic efforts and the impact that they have made through their time and service to the community.
