Lactation Consultant
The Women and Children’s center offers a comprehensive lactation program, including education, individual consultations and breast pump rental. A lactation consultant is available daily to help moms during their hospital stay. After discharge, a lactation consultant is available by appointment to help with any breastfeeding questions or concerns. Please call (970)479-6455 (MILK) for information. Feeding Your Newborn Classes
This 1 1/2 hour class is designed to help pregnant women learn breastfeeding techniques and possible challenges of of both breastfeeding and bottlefeeding. Topics include the benefits of breastfeeding, positioning and latch-on, establishing your milk supply, how to know if baby is getting enough, pumping and storing breast milk and much more.
This class is offered the 2nd Monday of each month, 5:30-7:30 pm, at the Vail Hospital and the 4th Thursday of the month 6:30-8:30pm at the Eagle Healthcare Center. Helpful Websites La Leche League: Founded in 1956, this group is committed to breastfeeding support, for mothers who want to nurse their babies. They have great informtaion about all breastfeeding topics and mother chat forums mediated by La Leche League Leaders.
KellyMom: This website was developed to provide evidence-based information on breastfeeding, sleep and parenting. Ask Dr. Sears: Ask Dr. Sears Breastfeeding space is a wealth of information about breastfeeding. The website includes topics ranging from starting to breastfeed to breastfeeding while working and many frequently asked questions.
American Academy of Pediatrics: This site discusses basic breast feeding information and possible problems that might occur. It also includes family and parenting resources.
