Howard Head - Aquatic Therapy
Aquatic therapy represents one of the most powerful tools to speed your rehabilitation and return you to peak function more quickly. Used following injury or surgery, the buoyant force of water supports the spine and limbs allowing an earlier introduction of pain free active movement. Similarly, water can be used to reduce or eliminate gravity’s effects on your body, allowing a systematic progression of weight bearing exercise. The resistive force of water also provides a safe medium to introduce ballistic and plyometric training. Patients with arthritis or other chronic conditions will find that aquatic therapy provides the same benefits as land based exercise without the deleterious effects on the joints and connective tissues. Therapists at Howard Head Sports Medicine have utilized aquatic therapy to successfully rehabilitate a wide variety of injuries and conditions, including:
- Shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle/foot surgery
- Spine surgery
- Back pain/SI dysfunction
- Fractures/sprains/strains
- General deconditioning/weakness
- Obesity/weight loss
- Osteoarthritis
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Stroke
- Balance deficit/falls
- Post pregnancy rehabilitation
